Department Head and Neck Cancer

Description

The Gustave Roussy Head and Neck Cancer Department is one of the largest in this specialty both in France and on the international stage.

A team consisting of some twenty doctors (ENT surgeons, thyroid surgeons, surgical oncodermatologists, plastic surgeons, medical oncologists and radiotherapists)  is responsible for overall diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of tumours and cancers of the upper airways (VADS) and the head and neck. It also delivers surgical treatment of thyroid tumours and of skin cancers involving the head and neck. In addition, the department contains a dental unit (dentists and prosthetists within a dedicated maxillo-facial prosthetic laboratory) and a specialised ophthalmology outpatient service.

The Head and Neck Cancer Department specialises in the management of complex cases and uses novel techniques: advanced reconstructive surgery, techniques for location of sentinel nodes, endoscopic laser surgery, new-generation robotic surgery, intranasal and skull-base endoscopic surgery, new chemotherapeutic agents, targeted biological therapy etc.

The Department collaborates with many other Gustave Roussy specialties, such as support services (speech therapy, nutrition, analgesia, psychology, addiction management and follow-up care), radiotherapy, imaging and interventional radiology. It also links with specialised departments in other hospitals when necessary (neurosurgery and thoracic surgery).
