Professor Axel Le Cesne

Head of the Sarcoma Committee at Gustave Roussy until 2019, Professor Axel Le Cesne is now in charge of the Institute’s International Department. A medical oncologist, he has held the position of Associate Professor of Medicine since 2014.

Professor Le Cesne is a member of several international committees, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He is also an active member of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer – Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group (STBSG). He serves as Co-Chair of the French Sarcoma Group and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society from 2010 to 2013. Since 2014, he has been a corresponding member of the French Academy of Medicine.

Professor Le Cesne is the author of over 440 research articles in the fields of sarcoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST), lung and breast cancer, immunotherapy, and gene therapy.
