Activities and Organizations
Children and adolescents receiving care from the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Oncology, as well as their families, can take part in activities and receive support provided by numerous organizations.
Educational, recreational, and cultural activities
The Department of Pediatrics offers patients and their families a wide range of activities led by early childhood educators and special education teachers. They work to help patients integrate and adjust within the unit, in particular through:
- Games and activities tailored to psychomotor and emotional development for children ages 0 to 11
- Educational activities designed to promote socialization, independence, self-expression, and interaction
- Music workshops, in collaboration with the Musique & Santé association and the Orchestre National de France; cooking workshops; and games, thanks to a partnership with the Villejuif toy library
- Festive events for Christmas, Carnival, and school fairs
- “Bridge” projects, such as the partnership with Universcience and the Cité des Enfants project for children ages 2–6 and 5–10.
Support for Families
Early childhood educators and special education teachers are also there to support parents in maintaining family balance.
An art workshop for self-expression
At Gustave Roussy, an art workshop led by teacher and artist Camille Marcandelli-Park allows children ages 6 and up and teenagers to participate in a variety of artistic activities, including painting, drawing, collage, photography, and sculpture.
The goal of this workshop is to help them express their emotions, release tension, and try to help them forget about their illness for a while.
Spaces Dedicated to Activities
Within the Department of Pediatrics, there are several areas where people can gather:
- The multipurpose room, for games, activities, and special events (shows, fairs, etc.)
- The “Squat,” a space reserved for teenagers and young adults
