Warning
A request for coverage should not be confused with a request for a second medical opinion. These are two distinct processes, each serving different purposes, as detailed below.
Request for Coverage
Patient Care Process
The process for treating an international patient follows these steps:
- Compiling and Submitting the Medical Records: The patient submits, via the platform or by email to SECRETARIATDI@gustaveroussy.fr, a complete set of medical records including:
- The complete medical record (reports from the most recent consultations: pathology, radiology, blood tests, clinical status, etc.);
- Any other supplementary tests, along with the associated CDs (imaging);
- A copy of the patient’s identification document.
- Review of the case during a multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT): The case is then presented at a multidisciplinary team meeting, where it is reviewed by physicians from various specialties, depending on the specific condition.
- Medical decision and patient referral: Following this review, the referring physician determines the next steps in the patient’s care, including the admission arrangements (inpatient or outpatient) best suited to the patient’s situation.
Request for a Second Medical Opinion
This process is distinct from the coverage request described above. In the context of a second medical opinion, the patient’s medical record is not reviewed for the purpose of coverage by our teams, but rather to provide a recommendation regarding the appropriate course of treatment.
For any second opinion request, please visit our dedicated website directly.
Once we receive your complete file, the medical opinion will be sent to you by email within an average of 7 days: you will be notified as soon as it is available.
Once you receive the second opinion, and for the following 14 days, you can ask the doctor for clarification or submit additional questions directly on the platform.
Your Stay
Throughout their care, international patients and their loved ones are supported by the entire staff of the International Department: the clinical teams, the medical secretariat teams, the administrative teams, and the department coordinator. This multidisciplinary support is designed to ensure a seamless and personalized experience, from the patient’s arrival through the end of their stay.
To provide all the necessary information prior to their arrival (organizing their stay, administrative procedures, daily life at the Institute, etc.), an “International Patients” booklet is made available.
