Understanding the Disease

Skin cancer is an abnormal and uncontrolled proliferation of skin cells, most often triggered by excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds.

There isn’t just one type of skin cancer—there are several.

Coverage

The Dermatology Committee at Gustave Roussy treats patients with skin cancer and those experiencing skin-related side effects caused by cancer treatments.

This care begins with an initial evaluation.

The InstaDiag Skin Carcinoma Pathway

To reduce wait times for care, optimize the care pathway, and advance research, Gustave Roussy operates a skin carcinoma center. This program offers a care pathway called “InstaDiag Skin Carcinoma,” designed for complex lesions.

The InstaDiag Skin Carcinoma Care Pathway. This pathway is designed for patients with a more complex form of the disease, for whom care cannot be completed in a single day. However, all the tests necessary for diagnosis are conducted on a single day.

The Dermatology Committee, through Professor Caroline Robert, is particularly involved in research aimed at identifying the mechanisms of resistance to melanoma treatments, to the identification of biomarkers of efficacy and resistance to therapies, and to the development of new therapeutic strategies.

Join a clinical trial

Many clinical trials are open to patients with cancer. Participating in a clinical trial provides access to innovative treatments while contributing to the development of new therapies.

  • Cancer and sun: good habits to adopt

Summer is all too often synonymous with excessive sun exposure; according to data from Santé Publique France, ultraviolet radiation on the skin is responsible for more than 10,000 new cases of melanoma in France each year. Providing optimal protection for oneself and one’s loved ones is a major public health issue, especially for patients who are being treated for or have recovered from cancer, for whom UV radiation can cause numerous complications.
