Overview

The Department of Radiation Oncology is responsible for providing radiation therapy to patients at Gustave Roussy, as well as to patients referred specifically for this type of treatment by other institutions, particularly within the healthcare network.

It fulfills a threefold mission of patient care, teaching, and research, as well as professional training for the various professions involved in radiation therapy.

The department has a comprehensive technical facility covering the majority of techniques currently available in radiation therapy. It delivers approximately 4,000 treatments per year, thanks to a team of 150 people: radiation oncologists, physicists and dosimetrists, paramedical staff, and administrative teams.

Teaching Activities

Teaching is provided to medical students during their initial training (hospital-based students) as well as to hospital residents pursuing this specialty; this instruction is integrated into the curriculum of the Paris-Sud Faculty of Medicine.

The department is staffed by university hospital personnel, university professors, and senior residents.

Most of the department’s physicians are actively involved in educational initiatives.

The Department of Radiation Oncology oversees certain courses specific to radiation oncology at Paris-Sud University (Master’s and University Diploma programs)

Main Research Areas

The Department of Radiation Oncology has a radiobiology laboratory and carries out significant work bridging the gap between basic and clinical research.

Many researchers, physicians, residents, and senior residents have earned their Master’s degrees and completed their doctoral dissertations at the Laboratory of Biology Applied to Radiation Oncology (UMR1030 – Molecular Radiation Oncology).
