Genitourinary Oncology Committee
Head:
Prof. Pierre Blanchard
Multidisciplinary expertise in genitourinary cancers
The Genitourinary Oncology Committee brings together specialists involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of cancers of the bladder, kidney, testis, and prostate.
Each case is discussed in a multidisciplinary setting to determine a treatment strategy tailored to the affected organ, the tumor’s characteristics, its extent, the patient’s medical history, and current condition. This approach brings together medical oncology, radiation oncology, urology, radiology, nuclear medicine, pathology, and interventional radiology.
Types of Cancer Treated
- Bladder Cancer:
Tumors that develop in the bladder, most commonly of urothelial origin but also in the urinary tract. - Testicular Cancer
Seminomatous or nonseminomatous germ cell tumors and other conditions requiring expert evaluation. - Kidney cancer:
Renal tumors, particularly renal cell carcinomas and rarer forms. - Prostate cancer:
Prostate tumors, whether localized, locally advanced, or metastatic.
Coordinated expertise to guide patient care
Imaging, pathological analysis, and organ-specific tests help determine the nature and characteristics of the disease
Specialists compare their analyses during multidisciplinary consultation meetings in order to propose a personalized treatment plan.
The assessment report compiles the information needed to evaluate the extent of the disease—whether localized or distant—and to prepare for the multidisciplinary discussion.
Depending on the situation, the evaluation may involve functional imaging, interventional radiology, or specialized urological expertise.

Research on Genitourinary Cancers
The research combines clinical and translational studies to better understand the biological diversity of genitourinary cancers, their mechanisms of progression, and their resistance to treatment. It also aims to identify biomarkers and develop new strategies that can be evaluated in clinical trials.
To study how tumor cells adapt under the pressure of treatment and identify vulnerabilities that could be targeted.
Better characterize tumors in order to guide research into factors associated with sensitivity or resistance.
The work of Anne Chauchereau and Prof. Yohann Loriot focuses on research into prostate cancer within the “Adaptive Resistance to Anticancer Therapies” team.
The committee's physicians participate in clinical trials focused on bladder, kidney, testicular, and prostate cancers, depending on the open protocols and patient eligibility.
