It's Not All Rosy - Breast Cancer - Epigenetic Research
It's not all rosy...
because thousands of patients are experiencing treatment failure
Epigenetic research
Professor Fabrice André’s teams at Gustave Roussy have discovered that some women who develop resistance to hormone therapy have a mutation in the KMT2C gene.
This gene alters the proteins that coat the DNA and prevents the DNA from expressing itself properly. This gene is therefore believed to be partly responsible for resistance to hormone therapy.
Objectives
- Identify new drugs that block the action of the KMT2C gene
- Analyze cancers resistant to hormone therapy to determine whether other mutated proteins prevent genes from expressing themselves
- Study all the proteins (histones) in metastatic breast cancers to determine whether other proteins exhibit abnormal characteristics
- Launch clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of drugs that modulate epigenetics
Benefits for patients
- Gain access to new treatment options beyond hormone therapy
