Skin Cancer Committee
Leaders:
Prof. Caroline Robert, Head of the Dermatology
Department; Dr. Émilie Routier, Chair of the Dermatological Pathology Committee
Integrated expertise dedicated to serving every patient
At Gustave Roussy, the Skin Cancer Committee provides specialized care for melanomas, skin carcinomas, and certain rare skin tumors, as well as skin toxicity related to cancer treatments.
It brings together a multidisciplinary team of dermatologists, oncologists, surgeons, imaging and nuclear medicine specialists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, pathologists, and cytopathologists.
Collaboration among these different areas of expertise allows for the development of a personalized strategy for each patient—from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up—while promoting access to innovation and clinical research.
Cancers and Conditions Treated
- Cutaneous, Mucosal, and Acrolentiginous Melanomas
- Cutaneous basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas
- Merkel cell carcinoma
- Adnexal carcinomas and other rare skin tumors
- Darier-Ferrand dermatofibrosarcoma
The Gustave Roussy Skin Cancer Committee treats patients with skin cancer, with particular expertise in advanced, metastatic, recurrent, or treatment-resistant cases.
For patients with locally advanced or metastatic skin cancer requiring rapid specialized evaluation, Gustave Roussy offers the InstaDiag Peau pathway.
This program coordinates—as much as possible within a single day—the necessary specialist consultations and tests to determine the extent of the disease and quickly establish a personalized treatment strategy.
The dermatology outpatient clinic provides a coordinated care pathway for the necessary evaluations and treatment of patients with localized skin cancers
Access to clinical trials is assessed throughout the care pathway, particularly for patients with advanced or rare diseases or those who have failed previous treatments
Expertise in the diagnosis and management of skin toxicity associated with cancer treatments, particularly immunotherapy and targeted therapies, in order to control dermatological manifestations while taking into account the requirements of oncological treatment
A multidisciplinary treatment decision
Clinical examination, histopathological analysis, imaging, and—when indicated—molecular testing are used to characterize the tumor.
The case is discussed among specialists to determine the appropriate role of surgery, medication, and radiation therapy.
The committee organizes and coordinates the various stages of the care pathway to ensure continuity between diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.

Therapeutic Innovation at the Heart of Care
Research on skin cancers aims to better understand why some tumors respond to treatment while others are resistant, to identify biomarkers that can guide treatment decisions, and to develop new strategies.
The research team led by Prof. Caroline Robert
Professor Caroline Robert leads a team focused on the mechanisms of adaptive resistance to cancer treatments. Her research focuses in particular on resistance to targeted therapies and immunotherapy in melanoma, as well as on the identification of biomarkers and new therapeutic strategies.
This close integration of clinical research, translational research, and patient care allows questions raised at the bedside to be brought into the laboratory and then evaluated through clinical trials.
