I’ve spent my life taking care of others—first children, since I spent my entire career as a teacher. Then I always took care of my older sister, who had an intellectual disability, and later my mother, since my father had passed away earlier. In 2013, a year after retiring, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, which was treated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and hormone therapy—all of which caused numerous long-term side effects. Four members of my family had died of cancer… and if I’m still alive today, it’s thanks to research! Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of a world without cancer, and to help make that dream a reality, I’ve decided to leave a bequest to Gustave Roussy. Since I have no heirs, I also didn’t want all my savings to go to the government. I want to leave a record of my family’s history with cancer so that others won’t have to go through the same thing in the future. I have complete confidence in the Institute, which has the best resources to cure cancer in the 21st century.
