Professor Gilles Vassal

Professor Gilles Vassal is a pediatrician, oncologist, pharmacologist, and professor of oncology. He specializes in chemotherapy and devotes his work to developing new therapies for children and adolescents with cancer. He headed clinical research at Gustave Roussy until January 2020 and co-led its precision medicine program.

A university professor since 1999, Gilles Vassal is leading several major trials in pediatric oncology, notably the European AcSé-ESMART early-phase trial of the ITCC network, sponsored by Gustave Roussy, and MAPPYACTS, a prospective, multicenter clinical study that explores the genomic profile of tumors with the aim of proposing treatment tailored to the molecular profile. 

Gilles Vassal is deeply involved in the European fight against pediatric cancers. He chairs the European network Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer (ITCC) and the ACCELERATE platform, where academics, parents, industry representatives, and regulatory authorities work together to accelerate innovations for children and adolescents. He is a member of the board of the European Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOPE).

Professor Gilles Vassal is a member of numerous learned societies, serves on several scientific advisory boards, and acts as an expert for the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications.
