Objectives and Challenges

The “Molecular Characterization of Breast and Gynecologic Cancers” team ," led by Fabrice André, is dedicated to studying the molecular and intratumoral heterogeneity of breast and gynecological cancers in order to identify actionable biomarkers and the factors responsible for disease progression. The team investigates the genomic, epigenomic, and spatial determinants of tumor evolution and metastatic spread, focusing on the mechanisms underlying treatment resistance in advanced gynecologic cancers.

Research Areas/Major Projects

The work of the group led by Fabrice André aims to refine patient stratification and enable the implementation of more effective, biomarker-guided therapeutic strategies for aggressive forms of the disease (metastatic breast cancer).

Within the team, Geraldine Gentric leads the MetaboCare group, which studies the links between metabolic reprogramming and cancer cell plasticity in treatment resistance and disease recurrence. This research combines spatial metabolomics, functional profiling, and the use of patient-derived cellular models to understand the effects of anticancer treatments on the remodeling of tumor cells. One of the key objectives of this research is to identify metabolic vulnerabilities in residual tumor cells and to translate these analyses into therapeutic strategies for patients with treatment-resistant cancers. This research is part of the UNLOCK program at the IHU PRISM.

The group led by Alexandra Leary and Valeria Naim seeks to identify new therapies and predictive biomarkers in ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers by targeting the response to DNA damage and the tumor microenvironment. This research combines translational science and clinical trials to evaluate new therapeutic strategies.

The “Microtubules and Cancer” group, led by Clara Nahmias, studies microtubule-associated proteins as prognostic and predictive biomarkers for triple-negative breast cancer and high-grade serous ovarian cancer, based on molecular studies conducted on patient cohorts. Studies of microtubule interactions with cellular organelles aim to develop new targeted therapies for specific patient populations.
