The partnership brings together the complementary strengths of both organizations. Gustave Roussy will draw on its multidisciplinary teams, scientific platforms and extensive clinical research experience, while Takeda will make its innovation programs and expertise in clinical and pharmaceutical development available. The partnership will focus initially on the areas of thoracic and gastrointestinal cancers and will foster close collaboration among researchers, clinicians and development teams.

Research will seek to deepen understanding of the biological and clinical mechanisms of certain Takeda investigational medicines, identify relevant biomarkers and better define the patient populations most likely to benefit from the approaches under investigation. They will span several stages of research, from clinical and preclinical studies to translational analyses.

“Our mission is to turn advances in research into knowledge that benefits patients. By bringing together our teams, platforms and clinical research experience with Takeda’s programs, we remain committed to Gustave Roussy’s ambition: to ensure that every patient can benefit from the very best advances in cancer care,” adds Professor Fabrice Barlesi, Chief Executive Officer of Gustave Roussy.

“This partnership reflects Takeda's belief that accelerating progress in oncology is enabled by bringing together complementary expertise and capabilities. By combining Gustave Roussy's scientific expertise, translational platforms and clinical capabilities with Takeda's innovative programs, we aim to generate meaningful insights more quickly and advance new treatment options for patients living with cancer,” said Phuong Khanh (P.K.) Morrow, M.D., Head of the Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit at Takeda.

  • ESMO 2026 - Addressing the side effects of endocrine therapy: a new care pathway combining digital support and human expertise

Dr Maria Alice Franzoi, medical oncologist and specialist in digital health and care pathway implementation, will present the results of the HOPE study at the ESMO Congress. This clinical trial evaluated a hybrid care pathway combining a mobile application and nurse-led support to help women receiving endocrine therapy for breast cancer. The aim is to reduce the burden of treatment-related side effects, which can compromise adherence to a therapy that is essential for lowering the risk of recurrence, while strengthening patients’ confidence in managing their symptoms. Ultimately, this approach seeks to improve quality of life, access to supportive care, and long-term continuation of endocrine therapy.

  • ESMO 2026 - Exploring the potential of immunotherapy in early-stage triple-negative breast cancer

Dr Joana Ribeiro, medical oncologist in the Drug Development Department at Gustave Roussy, will present the results of the POP-DURVA clinical trial at the ESMO Congress. Conducted within UNLOCK, a flagship programme of the PRISM Institute, the study evaluated the addition of two immunotherapy injections before surgery in women with localised triple-negative breast cancer. With a strong translational research component, the study also investigated immunotherapy's early effects on the tumour and its immune microenvironment, to better understand the mechanisms underlying treatment response.

  • After a breast cancer diagnosis, how can treatment be started more quickly?

Gustave Roussy is launching a new care pathway designed to accelerate the management of women recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It brings together, in a single day, the radiology examinations, blood tests, and oncology consultation required to initiate treatment. This new pathway complements the Institute’s rapid breast care offering. The InstaDiag Breast pathway already consolidates all diagnostic examinations into a single day to establish a diagnosis.
