The activities and services within this department address many aspects of the care pathways:

Organization and structure of the patient pathway

  • intake
  • clinic services
  • coordination of care, particularly with the support of digital technology
  • liaison with healthcare professionals at patients’ homes

Acute Aspects of the Illness

  • Emergencies
  • intensive care
  • Infectious disease unit
  • medical and surgical intensive care units
  • Supportive care (nutritional support, rehabilitation, pain assessment and management, palliative care, etc.)

Supportive care: to treat and provide care

In addition to specific cancer treatments, and to address the chronic aspects of the disease, so-called supportive care is offered to ensure that Gustave Roussy patients receive comprehensive care and the best possible quality of life. As part of a patient’s inpatient or outpatient care pathway, supportive care may be recommended by the referring physician in collaboration with teams from the Interdisciplinary Department for Patient Care Pathway Organization (Diopp).

Patients’ quality of life can be affected not only by the disease itself, but also by the side effects and aftereffects of treatment. That is why at Gustave Roussy, supportive care is an integral part of patient care from the very start of treatment and, in some cases, long after it ends. It includes, in particular:

  • psycho-oncology (consultations for patients and their loved ones, either individually or in groups)
  • pain management
  • rehabilitation
  • palliative care
  • nutritional monitoring
  • addiction medicine (treatment of substance abuse and addiction)
  • Photobiomodulation

In addition to medical treatments, there are many activities and support services that can contribute to patients' physical, psychological, and social well-being.

Environment and Prevention

The Interdisciplinary Department for Patient Care Pathways also manages issues related to the patient’s environment and their psychological and social well-being, as well as the prevention of risk factors for the development of cancer.

The entire DIOPP team is here to support you, working in close and ongoing collaboration with your primary care teams in the fight against your cancer.
