Breast Cancer: The CANTO Study

CANTO Study

Program Director:
Dr. Inès Vaz Luis, medical oncologist and researcher

Collection and Analysis of Biological Data

Thanks to advances in research, a growing number of women with breast cancer are being cured. However, treatments can cause side effects that persist after the disease has been treated, such as fatigue, weight gain, difficulty concentrating, and anxiety. These effects impact patients’ quality of life and social lives and can even compromise their adherence to treatment.

Program Objectives:

  • To identify the biological markers involved in the development of adverse effects.
  • To identify patients at risk of developing long-term side effects.
  • To reduce the long-term effects of the disease and its treatments.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2017. It was a particularly aggressive form of cancer. The decision to remove my breast was made very quickly… I started chemotherapy a month later. It was hell: constant nausea, loss of appetite, heartburn, no strength left… You can’t imagine what a relief it was when the treatments ended—I cried.

If my participation in this trial can help improve treatments and shed light on the causes of side effects, I’ll agree without hesitation. I’m doing this for all the other women who will be affected by breast cancer.
