Scientific Conferences and Seminars
Every year, the teams at Gustave Roussy participate in numerous scientific conferences and seminars on oncology in France, Europe, and around the world. Among these, three international events are particularly central to the research calendar: the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) conference, and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) conference.
These conferences are unmissable highlights of the global research landscape. They allow researchers to present their work, share recent scientific advances, and engage with the international community.
As the leading center for cancer treatment and research in France and Europe—and the fourth-largest in the world—Gustave Roussy is a major player at these conferences. Each year, its experts contribute to a significant number of presentations, demonstrating the center’s role in generating and disseminating knowledge in oncology.

How does a scientific conference work?
A scientific conference brings together professionals over the course of several days for presentations and discussions. Presentations take various forms:
- Plenary or presidential sessions: keynote lectures that bring all participants together to discuss specific topics.
- Oral sessions: presentations of research findings.
- Case-based panels: discussions centered on real-world cases.
- Symposia: in-depth thematic sessions.
- Posters: visual presentations of research, with informal discussions.
- Rapid oral abstract sessions: short-format sessions dedicated to concise presentations of research.
- Educational sessions: sessions designed for learning.
Other formats may also be offered depending on the conference, including workshops, roundtables, or panel discussions.
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting
Founded in 1964, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has more than 50,000 members from over 170 countries. Each year, the society holds a conference in Chicago, United States.
ASCO is considered one of the world’s largest oncology conferences. It focuses primarily on the clinical development of the latest advances. Each year, teams from Gustave Roussy present numerous studies there on therapeutic innovations and clinical trial results.
Awards
At the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, Merit Awards are presented to young researchers in recognition of the quality of the work they have presented.
