Hodgkin lymphoma is one of the most common cancers among adolescents and young adults.
Today, 9 out of 10 patients are cured, but sometimes with serious long-term consequences. Although effective,
treatments can have lasting effects on patients’ fertility, quality of life, and personal and professional futures.
Thanks to research, we can go further: improving recovery and quality of life after the disease.
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: A Disease That Primarily Affects Young People
Hodgkin lymphoma has a bimodal incidence:
- a first peak between the ages of 15 and 30, primarily affecting adolescents and young adults (AYAs),
- a second peak around age 60, with biological and clinical mechanisms that are completely different from those observed in younger patients.
In young patients, the prognosis is generally very favorable. But this therapeutic success comes with major long-term challenges.
It is particularly for these young patients that Gustave Roussy’s high-level expertise is absolutely essential; it is for them that your donation makes a direct difference.
Current treatments rely primarily on chemotherapy, tailored to the stage of the disease.
For disseminated forms, the remission rate reaches 91% at 4 years.
However, these treatments can lead to impaired fertility, a high risk of a second cancer, and a lasting impact on quality of life.
Even as the incidence of Hodgkin’s lymphoma is rising in Western countries, its causes remain poorly understood.
It is urgent to:
- Make treatments less intensive without reducing their effectiveness
- Provide better support for patients, both during and after their illness
- Understand the biological mechanisms underlying the lymphoma to better prevent and treat it
With your donation, you can play an active role in driving innovation and accelerating research on Hodgkin’s lymphoma—directly benefiting patients!
A research project to transform the management of Hodgkin lymphoma, with three research areas:
- Developing specialized supportive care pathways for young patients
- Improving treatment through therapeutic innovation and reducing exposure to chemotherapy by combining it with innovative molecules, such as immunotherapy or drugs targeting epigenetics
- Understanding the mechanisms of the disease by studying patients’ immune profiles, their metabolism and gut microbiota, and the tumor microenvironment.
Every donation helps to:
- develop less invasive treatments
- fund supportive care tailored to these young patients
- better understand Hodgkin lymphoma
