The excellence of Gustave Roussy has once again been recognised by the American magazine Newsweek, which has ranked the Institute as the leading cancer centre in France and in Europe, and among the very best worldwide, following the publication of the World’s Best Specialised Hospitals 2026 ranking.
Published annually by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista, the World’s Best Specialised Hospitals 2026 ranking is based on the results of an online survey of tens of thousands of healthcare experts worldwide and takes into account quality indicators reported by patients.
“This ranking highlights France’s ability to shine on the scientific stage. Gustave Roussy secures its place in the world’s Top 10, at sixth position, competing with centres with vastly larger budgets, thereby demonstrating the Institute’s capacity for innovation and the talent of its teams. This result, which is a source of pride for all our staff, is also a call to strengthen public and private investment so that French research can compete with the leading American and Asian oncology centres,” says Professor Fabrice Barlesi, Chief Executive Officer of Gustave Roussy.
In this context of heightened global competition with institutions that enjoy budgets far exceeding those available in France and unparalleled human resources, Gustave Roussy’s continued presence in the world’s Top 10 – ranking first in France and first in Europe – is an exceptional achievement. It is evidence of the innovative strength and talent of French teams and of the unwavering commitment of the Institute’s staff to deliver the highest quality of care to all patients, alongside top-level research with major societal impact. Researchers and clinicians continue to work towards their goal of curing 80 % of patients with cancer by 2040.
