Professor Alexandre Detappe
A researcher in nanomedicine, Alexandre Detappe has held the Chair of Excellence in Nanotherapy at the Gustave Roussy Foundation since 2025. His distinctive career combines chemistry, medical physics, and biomedical engineering, with a recognised expertise in the design of nanotherapeutic systems for oncology.
Trained in France (University of Lyon, CEA Saclay) and the United States (Harvard Medical School, MIT, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), he has held senior academic and research positions before founding the nanomedicine laboratory at the Paul Strauss Cancer Centre in Strasbourg in 2019, where he leads a multidisciplinary team.
His work focuses on improving the therapeutic index of anticancer treatments through innovative approaches that combine biomaterial engineering, molecular imaging, and immuno-nanomedicine. A recipient of several European (ERC), national, and industrial grants, he has developed numerous technologies currently undergoing clinical translation, particularly in the treatment of multiple myeloma.
Author of more than 60 scientific publications since 2020 and inventor of several patents, he is also involved in biotech entrepreneurship (co-founder of four start-ups) and international scientific advisory.
At Gustave Roussy, Alexandre Detappe continues to develop next-generation targeted therapies, working closely with clinicians to accelerate the availability of more effective and better-tolerated personalised treatments for cancer patients.
