Located in Villejuif, at the heart of the Paris-Saclay Cancer Cluster—one of Europe’s most ambitious ecosystems dedicated to innovation in oncology—Gustave Roussy brings together nearly 4,000 employees, including more than 1,400 professionals dedicated to research. Its organizational structure fosters constant interaction between clinicians, researchers, engineers, and industrial partners to accelerate the transformation of scientific discoveries into tangible advances for patients. Cutting-Edge Medicine in the Service of People

The teams at Gustave Roussy are constantly innovating to provide high-quality care that is increasingly personalized and less invasive, with one goal in mind: to optimize the patient care journey.
The Institute combines innovation with compassion, taking into account not only medical care but also patients’ physical, psychological, and social well-being.
Gustave Roussy is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities: robotic surgery, outpatient surgery and interventional radiology suites, a fully renovated radiation therapy suite, chemotherapy preparation robots, and a next-generation genomics platform.

Gustave Roussy is currently ranked first in Europe for early-phase clinical trials, thanks to its dedicated department, Ditep, which facilitates patients’ access to innovative medications within a very short timeframe.
 

Through its Education Division, Gustave Roussy supports those working to combat cancer and anticipates future breakthroughs in oncology.

The Institute trains professionals for the oncology careers of tomorrow through Gustave Roussy Education, which is affiliated with Paris-Saclay University. It is also home to the Doctoral School of Oncology, the only single-discipline doctoral school dedicated to oncology in France.

In 2026, Gustave Roussy published its institutional plan for 2030, reflecting its ambition to continue its development as a global benchmark and European leader in oncology, while strengthening its capacity to treat, support, and offer every patient the best chance of recovery. Building on the Institutional Strategic Plan launched in 2020, it aims to adapt the Institute to the major scientific, technological, and societal changes of the coming years. This project is based on a model that combines care, research, education, and innovation, supported by the judicious use of technology, a commitment to excellence, and a constant focus on financial stability. It embodies a collective ambition: to help cure 80% of cancers by 2040 through an institution that is more agile, more innovative, and consistently patient-centered.

In 1921, Professor Gustave Roussy established the first clinic dedicated to cancer patients in Villejuif, laying the foundation for modern oncology. A few years later, he opened a cancer institute that bears his name today.
