New drugs for new treatments

An early clinical trial (or phase I trial) aims to assess the safety in use of a new drug (administered on its own or combined with another therapy), what happens to it in the body, the possible adverse effects in man, and to acquire initial information about its anti-tumour activity.   

At Gustave Roussy early trials are conducted by the Department of Therapeutic Innovations and Early Trials (DITEP).

Description

The Gustave Roussy Surgical and Interventional Department is responsible for surgical treatment of cancer in adults in the following specialties: gastroenterology, dermatology, ENT, breast disease, gynaecology and endocrinology, as well as surgical treatment of sarcomas.

Radiotherapy machines

Gustave Roussy has comprehensive technical resources covering the majority of currently performed radiotherapy techniques. Some 4,000 treatments are carried out per year.

L’oncologue radiothérapeute assure une consultation de pré-radiothérapie avant de débuter tout traitement, qui peut s’étaler ensuite sur plusieurs semaines.

Un scanner de simulation, auxquelles peuvent être associées des images d’IRM ou de médecine nucléaire, doit être réalisé pour enregistrer les données anatomiques du patient. Un système d’immobilisation, appelé contention, peut être utilisé au moment du scanner de radiothérapie pour permettre au patient de s’installer dans la même position pour toutes les séances de radiothérapie.
